purge and transparent huge pages

We've witnessed long running applications on linux have RSS growing slowly
where active and allocated stats level off and stay where we expect them.
We believe this is a combination of fragmentation in our program and
failure of purge due to linux's transparent huge pages feature.  We don't
see this problem on kernels with transparent huge pages disabled.

Has anyone else seen this?
